After seeing this cool mural of the Charlotte cityscape on Instagram, my photog and I were determined to find it. So off we went last Saturday, Starbucks in hand and outfits on the ready. Good thing my photog used to live in this neighborhood AND has a keen eye, because she spotted it right as we were about to give up! The only problem? Full sun. At eight in the morning. UGH. But we took a few shots anyway and then explored the adorable street nearby. On another note, I've officially decided my next husband will be a general contractor! (JUST KIDDING, hubby - I love you!) But seriously, after living in a fixer-upper in Boone for a couple years and learning how much it costs to do upgrades, small projects, yard work and necessary things...let's just say you either need to be handy, a general contractor or a millionaire. None of which we are. My point is...the homes on this street were just gorgeous! White picket fences, impeccable landscaping, lovely crepe myrtles in full bloom - and that's just the outside of the houses! There were remodeled bungalows, stately cape cods and colonials, gorgeous front porches and peeks into lush side gardens. But we're here to talk clothing, right?
So I ordered this top from Julie's on a whim; I used to frequent their uptown location when I worked there a few years ago and while I felt it was a tad dated, I could still find gems. Recently, I visited the Park Road location and interestingly enough decided I was the oldest person in there, but again found some cute items. I follow the store on Instagram and after having searched everywhere for a reasonably-priced off-the-shoulder dress ordered this one and couldn't resist adding this top to my cart (I caught them both on sale!). I must admit I was pleasantly surprised when the top arrived; the fabric was thicker than expected and crisp, almost oxford cloth-like. And the color was even prettier in person! I paired it with crochet shorts, my new fave necklace from a recent Anthro sale and my Sam Edelman sandals (which are on sale right now!). I can't wait to wear it with white denim on vacation in a few weeks! And dark denim with ankle booties to transition into Fall (it's stays in the 80's here well into September and sometimes October!). This outfit can take you from brunch with the girls to a poolside party to a casual evening party. The only thing? OTS tops really do better in stills than real life, especially if you talk with your hands a lot (like me) or need to be moving around chasing a little one or are out shopping. I don't recommend them for active days; they work better on days when you will be sipping something cool and want to look cute (unless you get one with straps and an off-the-shoulder ruffle, like this cute option from Lauren Conrad's collection). Just giving it to you straight.
