You guys! I have been so busy with some freelance writing, (two articles this month - one a fashion DIY and one about styling booties), my day job and our adoption fundraiser that I October COMPLETELY flew by and I did not post a THING here....I am so sorry!
Soooo, let me catch you up! If you haven't heard or read yet - I've been writing articles for Scoop Charlotte, a local online publication that provides "Everything a Girl Needs to Know" - from boutique sales to recipes to trends and local vacation spots. If you are a Charlotte-area resident, you NEED the twice-weekly updates delivered straight to your inbox in your life to stay on top of what's hot & happening in the #CLT. I've been contributing some fun and easy #DIY posts and have just started to write some of their fashion trend posts (so I may be biased, but it's still a great pub!).
The other thing that kept me super busy in October was a fundraiser for the upcoming Baby G adoption. We hosted a silent auction fundraiser with some awesome items and raised nearly $1000! That's the equivalent of three baby loan payments (unfortunately adopting isn't cheap, but there are low-interest loans available, hallelujah!)! Nearly every auction item sold and everyone had a great time. I feel so encouraged and grateful for everyone who made it happen and can't wait to tell our baby about it. As for the process, we are still waiting to be chosen by a birth mom. It's been nearly six months and some days I'm so overwhelmed by the waiting that I just want to throw in the towel. But then I remember that God's timing is perfect, each day is one day closer and honestly, we could use the time to keep paying off debts and raising funds to help with the adoption costs. So even though Trick or Treating with my nephew and seeing all the littles dressed up pretty much made my ovaries hurt, and the prospect of YET another holiday season without a little one in our lives is somewhat sad, I know that waiting on who God has for us will be worth it.
I've also just started working with a new photographer! I'm so excited, as this is such an answer to prayer and I really loved working with her. She knows just how to give me direction (I need a LOT, it's honestly a lot harder to pose than it looks and I'm so NOT a natural model!) and the extra income helps her continue to have a flexible schedule at home with her three littles. #WinWin. It was nearly 80 degrees when we met last weekend (this weather has been just crazy!) so I had to modify outfits I had picked out. I guess I should get used to that - living in Charlotte, Fall seems to get warmer each year and then there's also the fact that I'm pretty much warm all the time now because #ughperimenopause. The last time I wore this printed LBD at our fundraiser with my tan Clark boots but wanted to switch it up at the shoot with my black OTK suede Stuart Weitzman lookalike boots. I also grabbed a cognac colored jacket I picked up from an online boutique out of my home state OH, Pink Slate. I am officially hooked on boutiques (read why here) and am so excited about the new one near me that carries sizes 10-24!
And, finally....it's No Shop November! Technically, hubby & I aren't shopping at ALL - we've cut out our weekly dinners out, books, clothing and anything "non-essentia.l" It's been tough and I will admit I've fallen off the wagon a few times with some online ordering. Luckily, hubby understands that since it's kind of my JOB to be on top of trends - i.e. scrolling through my boutique-laden and fashion blog-heavy Instagram feed and devouring every fashion magazine available - that I may slip up here & there. Thank God for that mercy! I will say, I've gotten MUCH better with regard to quantity of ordering. Quitting anything cold turkey is hard (I used to smoke back in the day and it took me TWO YEARS to quit) so think by cutting WAY back and allowing a few slips here & there it will be easier to do. Plus, sending extra payments to credit cards and loans is so satisfying! If you've ever wanted to see what a difference your incremental spending will do, try one month of no shopping! I'll be remixing items from my closet and hopefully giving some inspiration.
