Friday Five - Winter Neutral Must Haves

Hey Fashionistas! Winter has FINALLY arrived, even down here in the South, so I've picked out my favorite cold-weather items below. You can't go wrong with winter neutrals; it makes mixing and matching (and getting dressed in the morning!) super-simple. My favorite go-tos are a comfy sweater layered with a plaid shirt, paired with my leopard coat and a fun hat or gloves. This also makes your accessories be the stand out pieces. I'd love to hear what your favorites are in the comments below!Friday Five - Neutal Winter Must Haves

Fall is finally here and everyone everywhere seems to have embraced it full-force. Pumpkin-flavored everything, s'mores kits and comfort food are all I can think about!Fall is so many people's favorite season and for a variety of reasons. The crisp air signals new beginnings, the start of school and football seasons and here in the south, a welcome reprieve to the hot summer temps. But let's talk fall fashion, shall we?

Fashionistas know fall is a great season for all the fun opportunities it offers to wear layers, boots, suede, blazers, jackets, coats, scarves and hats (the list could go on but I'm almost hyperventilating just writing about it!). One of last years hottest trends that's back is blanket scarf; truth be told I'm almost already sick of seeing them all over my Instagram feed (I know, quelle horror!), although I fully intend to photograph the heck out of mine, haha! I have a new obsession with capes. Similar to the blanket scarf (and for us petite gals, they can be belted so as not to overwhelm), I find they can have a bit more shape and cover a little more. (Another slimming trick is to find a sleeveless cape.)

Ponchos, like capes, sort of drape across you, but are typically one piece of fabric and don't have arm-holes. These can also be belted, if long enough. The best part about a good cape, scarf or poncho is their versatility. Sort of like a one-pot meal, you can grab said cape/poncho/scarf, pair it with a long-sleeved tee or turtleneck plus  jeans and boots for a simple but chic clothing recipe. Just add a suede or fringed bag and a 70's-inspired pendant for a pulled-together look. Stay tuned for more examples to come...I'm sure I'll be wearing my capes, ponchos and scarves all fall AND winter!
