TECH ACCESSORIES OR LUGGAGE. Every new grad will be using their laptops, ipads and phones now more than ever. And with a stylish (and in some cases, more professional) cases, they'll be ready for the next step in their lives. Whether that's college, career or internship. A nice set of luggage is always a great gift. I had a boyfriend in high school who was quite upset that his mother bought him a luggage set (He thought it was because she wanted him out...he may have been right.) But I remember thinking that would be a great gift! Any new grad is sure to have either a backpacking Europe trip, one last vaca or possible work travel ahead, so luggage is a very practical gift. And who doesn't like a raspberry-colored suitcase?
Samsonite Luggage - 30% off right now with code SPRING (also carried at Kohls & JC Penney)
Stella & Dot Get AWay Bag - this bag is the bomb, ya'll! I have carried it for years now - to the pool, to the beach, on both work and personal trips. I actually just bought a second one!! The Get-Away has a 3 inch expandable zipper that makes it so versatile - not to mention you ALWAYS have more stuff on the way back from somewhere! AND it fits in the overhead or under your seat on a plane. Seriously, I can't say enough about this bag. And while I recommend buying directly from Stella & Dot (they also have several accessories that match, not to mention some of the BEST jewelry around), there are older patterns available at other places online. #rundontwalk
THIS Tory bag - I couldn't for the life of me get a snap of this pic, but it's the CAAUTEST little iPhone crossbody with a face wearing their sunglasses. Perfect for holding all the small essentials: your phone, keys, lipstick and lunch or subway card!
A TIMELESS TRENCHCOAT. Most of you KNOW how I feel about Burberry trenchcoats (I'll tell the long version of that story at some point). They are the quintessential jacket and they will NEVER go out of style. While your new grad is slogging through the rain to class, hailing a cab for that NYC internship or hoofing it to their new job from the lighttrail or parking lot, a trenchcoat is always in order.
Burberry's Classic Westminster trenchcoat (you can find these on Ebay, Poshmark or at the Woodbury Commons Outlets in New York)
A GOOD WATCH - I know, I know, we can all just look at our phones to see what time it is. I personally happen to think a watch is the key piece that makes an outfit look very "put together." Not to mention, it screams responsibility, timeliness and dependability to an interviewer. Truth be told, a nice watch on a man is super sexy (I'm always trying to get hubby to wear the one I bought him)! And on a woman, it looks classy, smart and stylish. Here are some great options:
CASH - Yup, good old cash is always a good grad gift. Personally, I think this is best for those who you don't know well (a close relative that lives far away) or for those who just prefer to give cash. It's always needed and will be greatly appreciated. Good Housekeeping has a great article here on creative ways to give cash. Another idea - in addition to cash - is to gift the grad with quarters. If they don't have a washer/dryer in their apartment, they'll be needing some coins. Also, if you are looking for a creative way to give laundry money to a new grad, check this site out.
CONGRATULATIONS to all you graduates out there!!! Now go get 'em.
(And make sure you look stylish while doing it.)
